Before the club officially opened for the 2009-2010 season, some of our players were itching for some "action." So, a round robin sectional tournament was put together. The 2009 August Round Robin was held on August 29, 2009 at the Grande Prairie Chess Club. We had 4 players competing in the pre-season tournament: Wade Caughlin, Tim Pradzinski, Dean Johnson and David Miller.
Wade Caughlin was the tournament favourite going in but was beaten by David Miller in the opening round of the tournament. Wade then went on to win his next 2 games and David went on to beat Dean Johnson but lost to Tim Pradzinski. So, Wade and David shared 1st place honors. Both Dean and Tim must have been rusty from the long summer break. LOL.
