The Grande Prairie Chess Club

Official Crosstable of the

2009 GP Club Championship

The 2009 GP Club Championship was held on May 23-24, 2009 at the Grande Prairie Chess Club.  This was one of the best tournaments held at our club in recent times!  There was only 2 draws out of 19 games!  In addition, there were a few upsets and quite a number of tense moments during many of the games.  Defending Champion, Wade Caughlin played through some intense back pain and played every game kneeling on a pillow.  Tim Pradzinski had a cold (which I think greatly affected his play in a negative manner) but was able withstand many anxious moments to win this year's club championship on tie break over Rob Nisbet.  Tim beat Rob in their individual game and both players ended the tournament with 4 points.  Rob and Tim are both under agreement that the club should have a single champion (as that is the point of the club championship) so Tim will be this year's champion.  It was great to have Chris White, 2 Time Road Warrior Champion, competing in the club championship.  It is always great when you have people travelling from out of town to play in your tournaments.  We really appreciate that support!

The Grande Prairie Chess Club added $100 to the prize fund to make this a championship worth fighting for.
