The 2011 Northern Alberta Open took place at the Edmonton Chess Club on February 19-20, 2011.
There were 37 players playing in this tournament with the winner of the tournament qualifying to play in the Alberta Closed Championship in April 2011. The winner of the tournament on tiebreak was Richard Wang.
I had 4 very interesting games in this tournament. I almost lost game #1 when I let Andu get his King into the game. In game #2, I thought I had a better position for most of the beginning and middlegame. In game #3, I had an awesome game against Hafiz Karmali. In game #4, I was happy to get the draw against Jim Daniluk. I tried for some tactics at the end but Jim saw them all. It was the first time that I had played each of my opponents. That is what you like to see when you go away for a tournment.
The tournament was directed by Anastasia Kazakevich who did an excellent job.
