The Grande Prairie Chess Club

Since September 1, 2009, the Grande Prairie Chess Society has taken over financial responsibilities for the chess club and for chess in the region.

If you would like to check out books from the Grande Prairie Chess Club library on a regular basis, you simply need to purchase a yearly membership to the Grande Prairie Chess Society.  Society membership allows you a reduced rate in our club tournaments and access to our extensive chess library.  More information on the benefits of becoming a member and where to pay your membership will be made available in the very near future.

2010 Grande Prairie Chess Society membership fees were as follows:

  • Full Year Membership  (Sep to Jun) = $30
  • Full Year Membership  (2nd Family Member) = $25
  • Full Year Membership  (3rd Family Member) = $20
  • ======================================
  • Half Year Membership (Jan to Jun) = $20
  • Half Year Membership (2nd Family Member) = $15
  • Half Year Membership (3rd Family Member) = $10

As the Grande Prairie Chess Society is generously supported by the Alberta Chess Association, you will also need to be an Associate Member of the Alberta Chess Association.

Alberta Chess Association Associate Membership fees are as follows:

  • Yearly - ACA Adult Associate Membership: $5
  • Yearly - ACA Junior Associate Membership: $3

Note:  If you are a member of the Canadian Chess Federation, you are already a member of the Alberta Chess Association and you are not required to purchase an Associate Membership.

Why do I need to purchase an ACA Associate Membership?

The answer is simple.  The Alberta Chess Association is required by the Alberta Government and also some of their major sponsors to show that they are supporting chess in Alberta.  The only way to do this is to sell memberships to those individuals who they are supporting (either directly or indirectly).  That's you!

The Alberta Chess Association supports our club by supplying us with chess sets, chess clocks and tables and chairs for the club.  They also provide us with chess sets for the schools in Grande Prairie area.  Most of all though, they assist us with our room rental at the 1st Apostolic Church.  So, you see, you get a lot for your additional money!

What are the tangible benefits of my ACA Associate Membership?

When you purchase an ACA Associate Membership from the Grande Prairie Chess Society, you are entitled to receive a hard copy of the ACA newsletter, the Alberta Chess Report, which comes out 6 times per year.   Your copy will come to the Grande Prairie Chess Club soon after it becomes available online.  You will also receive the satisfaction in knowing that your membership helps support chess throughout Alberta.
